Ledger plays the role of a deceased Joker in 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

In a surprising twist that is sure to excite fans of the comic book superhero, Pseudo News learned that Heath Ledger will return to his role as the maniacal criminal mastermind in The Dark Knight Rises. For months there has been speculation on whether or not Ledger would return as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s sequel to the 2008 blockbuster hit The Dark Knight. During an exclusive interview, Nolan confirmed that Ledger would have a small role in the upcoming film.

“There was a great deal of difficulty in bringing Heath back for the 3rd film. Negotiations lasted for several weeks, but both sides came together and got it done. I can firmly say that Heath, in person, will be making an appearance in the 3rd film. There will be no CGI, or leftover footage used in portraying the Joker. It will be Heath live in person and I must say that once again, he played the role magnificently, a true professional.” Nolan stated.

Insider details reported that Ledger is in the opening sequence to The Dark Knight Rises in which The Agent of Chaos devises a brilliant plan to escape from Arkham Asylum. In an amazing getaway scene, The Caped Crusader catches up to The Joker but before Batman can arrest the Joker and fill out a police report, Bane makes his first appearance and kills The Joker.

According to the film makers, Heath played the role of a deceased Joker perfectly.

“Heath did it again. He really did. He did such an amazing job of portraying The Joker in this film. When he laid on the floor, lifeless. It just felt so real.” Christian Bale said. “To me, it didn’t seem like it was Heath playing dead or acting dead. I could really feel the emotions as if he was really in fact dead and that was simply amazing to witness, he really brought the character to life. Heath is everything an actor should be.”

During our exclusive interview with Christopher Nolan, PNN asked whether or not the film director felt like he crossed any lines when deciding to cast Ledger in the film.

“I really don’t feel as if I went too far. I’m sure the Ledger family will be happy with his performance in the film. And to be quite honest, Heath’s career has been quite dead lately.” Nolan said. “[Which] I find to be really surprising as many in the Hollywood circle predicted that Heath’s career was going to blow up after The Dark Knight. I’m shocked that his career hasn’t done so well since then. But we sat down and we both agreed that it would be beneficial to do the film with Heath in it, because quite frankly, we might be screwed without Heath.”

Heath Ledger was not available for comment on his upcoming role in The Dark Knight Rises scheduled to hit theaters in the Summer of 2012.
